Early Navy Career

From Sailor to Chief Petty Officer A Distinguished Navy Career

Bud Stauffer enlisted in the US Navy in July 1974, quickly rising through the ranks due to his dedication and leadership. After serving until 1979, Bud briefly left military life to join the Illinois State Police Academy as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO). However, his passion for serving his country led him back to the Navy in October 1979.

In 1982, Bud was recognized as the Sailor of the Year for the US Pacific Fleet and earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer.By 1985, he was promoted to Commissioned Officer and commanded security forces across various naval stations until his retirement in 1994 as a Lieutenant.

Air Traffic Control Operations (shore and carrier-based)

Firearms and Security with multiple certifications

Expert Pistol and Rifle Marksman, achieving the NRA Distinguished Marksman Award.

Bud has dedicated over 40 years to teaching firearms safety and security courses to individuals and groups across the U.S., including in

  • Texas
  • Nebraska
  • North and South Carolina

For the past decade, Bud has operated his own business, focusing on firearms training and North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun (CCH) classes in central and eastern NC. His current base of operations is in the Crusoe Island community of Whiteville, NC, where he runs private pistol and rifle ranges.
